Blog 53- JAAAAAKKKKKKEEEEEE

Well today in Human Geography we presented our reports about is it better to buy a product from America or from China. Most of the groups had I America I think.  In my opinion I think most of the American groups did a good job with the exception of a few mistakes. While the Chinese groups did an ok job, but they had giant walls of text, and misspelled a lot of words in general. So I think that all the groups did well, just with a few minor exceptions. Then for our group, we thought we had a good original slogan. But we were wrong Jake stole the slogan from Holly and said it was his. So holly got really angry and went on a sort of rampage. Well I'm glad that I thought of putting the trade mark symbol at the end of it. So technically it’s not stolen but it still is.

Blog 52- 'Merica ftw

Well we almost finished our product project. We have our slogan, and all the info we need. We have most of the info on the power point. The info we used was price, quality, and warranty. We are also doing this on a presi, so it is really different. I glad that we got to do it because it is something new for me to learn. We can thank Jake for the slogan and for the solar panel idea. Since we were having a hard time to find a american made product that is much cheaper than one made in China. So the idea was good and we went with. We found that America wasn't cheaper by a little. It was better by a mile, the quality and price were much better. So i quite like the idea of using solar panels. I hope that we win the project since we put a lot of work into it.

Blog 51- Made better in America

Well today in Human Geo we were left to our own devices for we have to do a project. For our team, we had to make American goods look better than Chinese goods. So our team had to make American goods look better. So we picked Solar Panels. We were comparing two different companies. One American the other Chinese, the Chinese solar panel cost $340 but it can only produce 85 watts and after 10 years it loses 10% of its power generation. While the American company makes solar panels that cost of $277 for 133 watts and they have a lot of tests done to each panel. They also have another panel that is $355 and it generates 250 watts.  So with these facts, America is clearly the better price and quality. So this is on good that America makes better than China.

Blog #50-Cars Cars Cars

Well we covered a little more today in Human Geo today. We talked about what we learned first. We watched how the Chinese love cars. The only problems with that over 2000 cars are being put on the road a day. It’s a problem because they don’t have the same standards for emissions and safety. So there cars are horribly polluting the atmosphere, so as of now Beijing in one of the dirtiest cities in the world. It’s also bad since their cars are not very safe in the slightest. When they tested the cars, they were totaled on crashes that US safe cars would survive. If they don’t change these two things they can never hope to sell cars to the US if they are the way they are now. They hope to sell American cars assembled in China to America but that is what people are trying to avoid.

Blog #48- China Loves Cars

Well today we watched even more of the Republic of Capitalism part 3. We re-watched some of it. We watched the part about Lefan motors, and how they asked if they steal ideas. The head said they don’t steal ideas, if America won’t give them what they want; they well purchase it from Japan and Germany. So then we continued on with the video. That the head of Lefan motors has an eye on the global market, he is trying to be a competitor with ford and other companies. When we watched the video, you think as him as Scumbag. Though he is a good business man when you look at him, he is trying to compete with companies that have been around for a 100 years. So he is doing his best to compete, though he probably isn’t doing it the best way. If everything goes his way, you may see Lefan cars in America.

Blog #47- China has car!

Well today in Human Geo we watched part 3 of the video. The reason why we are on part 3 is because Mr. Schick doesn't like part 2 or 4. So part 3 is about how China’s auto industry is growing very fast.  They predict that by the end of 2030 China’s auto industry will be much bigger than the US. Though the main problem with this is because the auto industry just came to China everyone, is being taught how to drive. So imagine New York with everyone being a bad driver, there would accidents all the time. They say that their is around 400 accidents a DAY. So they people try to exchange their information and anything else they need to do fast. If it takes to much time or the accident is severe enough, the police will step in. The officers will say that one person is 90% to blame and the other person is 10%. So they pay what is needed. So insurance companies are trying to make the process more streamlined and make a name for themselves. Though they are not sure if it will work. They also have to build all the roads by hand. So they are hand digging holes for support beams for the highways. Overall it is starting to grow, though they have much still to go before it is mostly perfect like the US.

Blog #46- Economy

We finished the video, finally in Human Geo. We finished the whole Brigs and Stratton part and moved to the next part of the video. It started with a little Chinese woman talking about her husband and daughter. That her husband spent almost all the time drunk, and she didn’t really like him. The only reason she stays is because of their daughter. They sped half of their yearly income which is about 300 for school. They are farmers who work with Lotus Roots. They will sell about 120 pounds of Lotus root for 10 American dollars or so. Then they transitioned to the next family. They showed that it is a Chinese family that lives in the USA, and the father works for CDC or some organization like that in the US. He then decided to go into a private practice to find a cure for AIDS. He set up shop in China why because it is cheap of course. These are just examples of the Chinese Economy.

Blog #45- The Chinese

. We frankly didn’t learn very much in Human Geo again. We spent a good 3/4th of the class just doing story time. So then we finally got to the movie, we learned a little bit. We talked about how Walmart’s stock is mainly made in China. So when the woman was complain about how she lost her Job to the Chinese. Well little did she know, since she was shopping at Walmart she was helping her own downfall. Since she was buying stuff made in China, she was encouraging companies to move to China since Walmart had such a success there. Then people in China didn’t know what people in America get paid. When the one girl asked, the man didn’t tell her because I think he didn’t want her to get angry. That is all she knows, and if that is all she will be doing for a good long while, best not make it even worse for her.

Blog #44- Discussion

Well today in Human Geo we didn’t really get much farther into the video, we just watch a old part and explain greatly. One thing that we covered it how there are chain reactions. The first chain reaction is say a company closes. So then you have the people who work in the factory out of work. So they want to save money. So then the restaurants as an example will lose money since they the people are trying to save money. So then the restaurant loses money and closes. So then just from the one factory closing, 300 people without work could turn into 1000 in a blink of an eye. This is a terrible thing but could you blame them. The company is saving so much money that if you were to look at it, you would be stupid not to do it.

Blog #43-Capitalism at its finest.

Well we are back after our very restful 5 day weekend. I miss that weekend greatly. Well we talked a little bit about how there will be an assembly tomorrow. Then we later talked about how their will be a cease fire between Israel and Palestine though it may not last that long. Then we talked about how the new Egyptian Leader is starting to become more of dictator than a leader. So then we moved to our new section of economical geography. So of course the first country we talked about was China and how Jobs are being outsourced. Also women in China get paid 2 dollars a day, while men get paid 4 dollars a day. People hated their jobs there but if they quit, 5000 people will be ready to take their Job gladly. Their jobs look horrible, something they no one wants to do in America.

Blog #42- All the Test

Well do today in Human Geo we had a test. We had to turn in the paper that we wrote on the weekend. Some people didn’t do the paper right, which I found pretty funny. In my opinion I thought that it was pretty easy. I didn’t use my blog for the quiz. I could have used it, but I knew all the answers in my head. The test was basically the same as the other tests we took but some of the questions were new. The questions about the countries were ok. They were like my country is so and so. Then other ones showed the country and you had to label it with the leaders’ name. It was so easy I couldn’t believe it. I hope I did well because if I didn’t and I said it was easy, I would feel like crap literally.

Blog #41- Trouble is coming.

Well now there is some big trouble coming in the Middle East. Israel and the Gaza strip. They have been firing missiles back and forth at each other. This is now starting to become all-out war right now. Israel now has tanks at the border, and they might have a plan to invade. They say the only reason they are invading is to destroy the missile launch stations and their ammunition. This is really bad in my opinion. So if it starts to get really bad, people will have to start to pick sides. This could evolve into WWIII if things start to get really bad. I just hope Israel will back down, because if they don’t thinks will only get work. As of now the U.N. is trying to calm both of them down. But as of now there is no avail, war in imminent unless something is done soon.

Blog #40- Moved

Well we got some new seats. I assume the reason we got to pick our seats in that order, was because of grades. That is because Mason was last.  So then Mr. Schick decided to tell us about our upcoming writing assignment. The assignment was 2 pick two countries out of the 12 we have been studying. Then we have to show that their relationship with the US. I betting the easiest ones for this assignment, will be the countries that hate America and or have a bad relationship with them. One thing to note now is the new head of China. The new leader was just elected though I don’t know his name. So no more Hu Jintao. I'm probably thinking two different countries so I have enough to say. If I pick two countries that are similar equal not having enough to say. That it is what we did today.

Israel

Israel became an independent state on May 14, 1948

Following World War Two, the newly-formed United Nations drafted a treaty dividing up some of Palestine's land.  They established an independent Arab state and an independent Jewish state.  Many Jews emigrated to the new nation of Israel post WWII.  Creation of this new Jewish state was not universally accepted by Arabs, even though Israel was officially admitted to the UN on May 11, 1949.  There is still controversy surrounding Israel's very existence in the Middle East.

China

China's official date of independence is October 1, 1949.

China is one of the world's oldest civilizations.  As long ago as 221 BC, China was unified as a nation during the Qin dynasty.  They formed a republic on January 1, 1912.  The current Communist government, officially called the People's Republic of China, was formed in 1949.

Blog 37- SURPRISE ... you have a test

As the title says we had a "surprise" test. Mr. Schick put it on his blog yesterday when he didn't have class so everyone wasn’t prepared. Since I know Mr. Schick would have the test on the facts from out blog, I studied his blog a lot, so I hope I did well. Since I was right the stuff I studied right before it was on the test, so I was happy. The first part I think I aced because I got a hundred on the other test like it. The pack part of the test was a bit confusing. Since a lot of the facts were a little obscure. Though I think I got a good grade, and I hope at least some other people did to. I wish I had a little more time to study though since a few of them I guessed on but want can you do. So overall it wasn’t too bad, in my opinion.

Blog #36- Obama

Well today we had some different stuff. We had a shadow and we talked a little more about the government. Well for one let it be documented here, Obama won today and Mitt Lost. I just found it funny that Mitt was so cocky he didn’t write a losing speech, now on to the work. Well the first thing we talked about was how Hamid Karzai came into power after the Taliban. They had control of Afghanistan before he did. Then right after that we really stopped talking about that, and we then started to talk about politics. Mr. Schick shared his opinions like how 16 year olds should be allowed to vote, and they should get rid of the electoral votes and use the popular votes. I really don’t know if we should get rid of the electoral vote system, I see his point but I don’t know. But whatever it was an enriching class. President Obama went to an Ivy league School. And he made a Commerce Clause which does not allow the government to require people to buy health insurance, but the mandate was constitutional under the US Congress's taxing authority.

Blog #35- Teh History

We learned some pretty interesting stuff about the world leader. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said many weird things like how aids was created to weaken people, and he is a ruler.  The president of Venezuela hates America; he wanted to get into a first fight with President Bush. Even before that he tried to overthrow the Venezuelan government, but didn’t succeed he ended up in jail for 2 years. Dilma Rousseff was tortured in her 20’s and then put in jail for 2 years. Benjamin Netanyaku’s brother was killed on a hostage rescue mission and that inspired him to get into politics. Saudi Arabia’s leader Abdullah didn’t like Al’quaeda because he thought they were led by foreigners. The leader of India Pranab Mukherjee is a very smart man, who can handle money very well. He was voted the best money manager in Asia in 2010. We learned many things today, even if we can’t find the countries on a map though.

Blog #33 - Reviewz

Well we finally got back to Human Geo after a whole week of missing it. We went over the test answers. I got a 96% on the test. The only things I got wrong were the Muslim questions like where they pray to and that is Mecca. Then we went over the world leaders in a matter of like 5 minutes or less, we were speeding. The main reason why I'm not going to put all the leaders on the blog since they are already here on the blog and it would just get repetitive. Otherwise I thought that I did well with the test and I did. Though I was surprised that some people failed, that Mr. Schick said that 9 people or so failed. Though I could sort of see why it surprised

Blog #32- Another test bits the dust

Well today Human Geo was well … what can I say we had a test. It also seems that every time we have a test Mr. Schick is nowhere to be found. He always seems to be missing every other week which is somewhat weird. Well I studied for the test … all first mod and advisory so I was prepared. I was scared that the test was going to be hard, but at the same time I wasn’t too scared because I had a high grade in the class already. We had Mr. Hughs for a sub and he wasn’t that bad. And of course every time Schick isn’t here, he has to assign work which is very annoying but whatever. The test was pretty easy in my opinion, I think I studied a bit too much since I knew most of it, and then some but what can I say. I hope Schick had fun on his little vacation thing.

Blog- #30 ta da # 30

Today in Human Geography Mr. Schick had us do some different stuff in class. First of we had a shadow his name was Dylan Kidd. I knew him from my old school; he is a grade below me. So Mr. Schick did his little shtick about asking something about them and what Dylan told him gave him the nickname shark boy. Then we continued working on what we were doing before, though Mr. Schick had the bright idea to let us pick the test questions. We had some different questions that Mr. Schick liked though some others were either bad or trick questions. The different questions included did the Europeans conquer America, who was the enlightened one, what is the oldest religion on the list, and more. The reason why I'm not including more is because I left my book at school. So otherwise we are slowly gaining more questions.

Blog #29- So close but no cigar

Today in Human Geo we got very close to finishing the world religions. We also had a shadow come and he taught some of the class by Mr. Schick’s permission. So we continued on Buddhism first. We had a little rant on how Buddha wasn't fat and he skinny on the verge of death. Then we talked about the reincarnation cycle that you can either go up or down depending on how well you did in a past life. Then when you reach the top you obtain nirvana. The next religion was Hinduism. We didn’t really cover a lot with this one because Mr. Schick didn’t know a lot about it. We just talked about its population and that you can choose to worship different gods. Then last but not least was Judaism, which we didn’t finish. It’s based on having a one on one connection with God. It is the smallest religion on the list at 16 million. Judaism, Islam, and Christianity are all the same religion base with all believing the in same God.

Blog #28-More of ze religions

Today is human geography we covered some more world religions. We covered the rest of the Islamic religion. We sort of reviewed most of the Islamic stuff but since their was a lot of questions it still took time out of the class. Then for a little bit we talked about the religious extremists and what is considered to be extreme like 9/11. We explained that Al Qaeda was just that. They next religion that we started was Buddhism. The son of a great king named Siddartha Gautama. A prophecy predicted that he would be either a great king or a great spiritual leader. So his father knew this and tried to keep him in the castle so that he would not leave and see the world. Though similar to Aladdin, the prince snuck out and saw the saw world. He said that he could not live in Luxury when people are staring and stuff. So he meditated and found the way which led to Buddhism.

Blog #27- More of Ze Vorld Religions

In Human Geo today we started to go over the world project that we did on Friday. The first religion that we got to in class was Christianity. They believe that Christianity was started around 40 ad.  That the main person of the religion is Jesus and that he weren’t popular during his life. Then we did the other questions like is Christianity mono or polytheistic which it is. Then the holy book is called the bible. Then we took around 20 min just asking questions and stuff. Then the next religion was Islam. The main person of the religion was Mahmoud you lived between 570-620 ish, he died when he was 50. The Muslims don’t believe Jesus is the son of god, they believe he is the son of God. Their holy book is the Qur’an.  Then we spent 20 more minutes asking questions. That is about how far we got in class.

Blog #26- Ze World Religions

Fridays class we didn't have Mr. Schick. We had Mr. Perry for a substitute. This was really fun because a lot of people in the class had him for science. So he just made fun of us, and the people who have never had him got to learn his standards which was pretty funny. Then we saw the giant project Schick left us, and everyone sighed. So we had to do something of world religions. Over all Christianity was the easiest for me since I have always gone to a christian school, I didn't have to look up as much. The other religions were harder since I had no idea what any of them were. The project wasn't fun, and i just found it cruel. Though i did finish it on the first day because of free mods. In my opinion the hardest religion was Hinduism because of the the different exceptions like how it is either Polytheism or Monotheism depending on the person. I didn't enjoy this project but I know Schick can do worse so i'm thankful.

Giant World Religion Project!!!

There are many different world religions the main religions include Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism and Judaism. The First religion that I'm going to explain is Christianity. The religion was founded in the area of Israel. It is a Monotheistic religion, which means it only has one God. Christians have a holy book; the book is called the Bible. There are 2.18 billion Christians in the world today. The central figure in the religion is God, but he can be broken into three different parts God, Jesus and The Holy Spirit. The largest amount of Christians are located in the United States are America.
The next Religion is Islam. Islam was founded on the West Coast of Saudi Arabia, near the area of Mecca. Islam is a Monotheistic Religion. The Muslims Holy book is called the Qur’an. In 2009 there were over 1.6 billion Muslims the worlds.  The God of Islam is called Allah. Most of the Muslims are found in the Middle East. The Islamic Religion was a split path religion from Judaism just like Christianity.
Another Religion was Buddhism. Buddhism was founded near Northern India. Technically Buddhism is Monotheistic because there are many different forms of Buddha but they all are still Buddha. Buddhism has no holy unlike the other Religions so far. Buddhism has anywhere from 300 to 500 million followers. The Buddhist religion does not believe in a God, they find it unimportant, but the closest thing they have to a God is Buddha. The largest amount of Buddhists can be found in China.
The next sort of different religion is Hinduism. It was founded in Ancient India. Hinduism is Polytheistic, it has many different Gods, and though it will change depending on what you domination you are. Hinduism has 3 different sacred texts; The Upanishads is the oldest and most mystical. The Mahaburata has all the stories, and the Vedas are the most philosophical. Hinduism religion has around 850 million followers. Since they have many different gods, the main God is Brahman. India has the largest Hindu population at around 780 million people.
The final religion I will be covering is of course Judaism. People are not sure exactly where it came from but it is believed to have come from either Israel (if so by Abraham) or Samaria (if so Moses) though most of people agree with Israel. It is a Monotheistic Religion. The Jewish sacred text is called the Torah, or the first five books of the Bible. There are 14-16 million Jews in the world, making it one of the world’s smallest religions. Jews have many different names for their one God, and these names are Elohim, El, El Shaddai, Adonai, Elyon, and Avinu. Most of the Jews live in the US and Israel ( They are tied at around 5.5 million Jews each) . There are many different world religions and it isn’t bad that they are different.

Blog #25- Not similar?

Today is class we are on our second PowerPoint, which is some major progress in Human Geo. We started talking about what can make or break a country. Those things include religion, ethnic backgrounds, and language. Since when you all have the same language, you feel more comfortable, and you will be more open to people. It is also better to have the same religion, because overtime religion might drive to parties apart, and even to go to war against each other. There are many differences in the world and that is not necessarily a bad thing. If we all had the same religion and all spoke the same language. We would be as boring as North Korea. They all speak the same language, and they all have the same religion ( for the most part). It is good for everyone to be different. The world is special because of how diverse it is.

Blog #24- All the fail in the world.

Well today in Human Geo we learned some different things, and there was some fail and it wasn’t our group. We covered 3 different cultures, my groups culture was the Native Americans, The Vikings, and The Europeans. I already covered the Native Americans in my last blog, but the one thing I have to mention is of course they got to America around 12,000 to 17,000 years ago. It was mentioned around 3 to 4 times during the powerpoint. Then the next group was The Vikings, and they were interesting. The founded America and they left because they didn’t see any use with it. They came here and thought that the effort that it takes to get here wasn’t worth the reward, and while you are at it the Natives were also attacking them. The final group was The Europeans which is full of fail. I don’t think I have to explain the Europeans, but the group failed. They said that the Europeans didn’t conquer America, and they weren’t sent by anyone to come here. Over all I learned a lot and I hope there isn’t any more fail, during the rest of the unit (no I don’t).

Blog #23- Something Different

Well we are finally covering something different. We are now looking at cultures and the first three that we are looking at are Vikings, Europeans, and Native Americans. Our group had Native Americans, and I learned some different I didn’t know before. I learned for one that they first arrived in American around 20,000 in now what is Alaska. They crossed over using the Bering Strait which connected Asia and the America’s during the Ice Age. They spread from Canada all the way to South America. They were the first Culture in America, so they got all the land that they wanted. They had a very diverse culture. They really weren't that different to their European counterparts. They were building Pyramids that looked different but they were roughly the same. It’s sad that we kicked them off their land, that wasn't fair to them. They are the same as us, and we shouldn't forget that we are on there lands.

Blog #22- Another Test

Well today is class we had another test, it would be surprising if the title didn’t give it way already. Well we had around 15 minutes to study for the test; I did take the time to study though. I feel like I did well on most of the questions. I think I only got around 2 or 3 questions wrong (not counting spelling). I don’t except it will be better than my first test but who knows (Mr. Schick) Though on the other hand, I didn’t do the best with the blogs I had so in the long run I could’ve done better but I didn't and it was my fault. So over all the test wasn't as bad as I thought it was. It was easy though all I remembered was the later stuff which was the only things in the blog. They didn’t really help but that’s my fault. I hope that we can help the people in Sudan sometime this year.

Blog #21- Charity

In class we started to look at all the different charities to help Sudan. We looked at John Bulls yesterday, and part of today. Then we started to look at the charities the other class has put on there too. When we finished yesterday, we were at 2 pages, well after the other class we are on 5 pages. This gives us plenty of choices for a charity, but then it will make it harder to pick one that we will use. Then we looked at a water charity. In short that charity will dig wells so that the people of Sudan will be able to drink clean water. Then the next one that I remember was the charity from Panther. This charity will build a school for Sudan. Mr. Schick said he would try to contact him like John Bull. So over all I think that a charity that will help them get food, water, or medical care would probably be the best choice in my opinion.

Blog # 20- The small amount of work done

We didn't really accomplish as much as we have done before. We went over some stuff, and then we started on the main part of class. Mr. Schick got an email from John Bull saying that he will come to the school and talk but we need to pay for it. So that may not happen anytime soon. Then after that we started to look up foundations and then put them on a google dox. The main problem with that is that we are childish. Some people started to delete things, than which got annoying is when people started typing stuff while you were trying to type. So then Schick started to yell at us about what was happening, it got a little better. Though someone kept messing with what I was trying to type. I was trying to type and they were pasting something from their thing in my text while I was typing. Then when I deleted it, they kept doing it. So it got annoying but it worked a little bit. If you want to have this work, try to limit what some people can do.

Blog #19-The End

The lost boys have come very far from when they first came to America. Most of them got a better education, and they are trying their best to improve living conditions back home in Sudan. Every year or so they have a lost boys meeting so that they can see how far each of them have gotten. Panther went to school and got his high school diploma and he is trying for his bachelor's. When he is all done with school he will try to build a school in Sudan so they can be educated. Since they have many things in their country which they can exploit if they had an education. Panther also went back to the camp and married his girlfriend. Then John Bull has taken three jobs to try to help his family. He finally meet his mom after 17 years of being separated. Then he founded a non profit organization and trying to build a medical Clinic in his home town. While Daniel is still going through College and he hasn't found his family yet. They have all come a long way, and they shouldn't stop where they are, they should keep going.

Blog #18- No Schick

A day without Schick was kind of weird. He had to go on a short field trip, right before our class. The teacher who substituted ( I can’t remember her name) did some differently, than what we were used to.  We started off where she made us review for her since she has never seen the movie. Then when we were reviewing and we got to the refugee camp she had us take down some notes about that. Then we couldn’t find the movie and we took around ten minutes until we finally found it, then we continued on the movie. When finally got to a new part in the movie, now they are no longer living for free. They had to get jobs and be self-sufficient. All of them were happy to find jobs. Some of them started to work on getting a better education, while John had some different ideas. He was going to go to community college until he found out that his family was alive, so he took on a third job and started to send them money. They are starting to because full citizens in the US now.

Blog #17- Eating Butter

Well today in class we started to watch the rest of the video. In the video a few of them started on the trip to America. On the plane ride they were amazed to fly and I'm pretty sure they spend the entire the first plane ride. Then they got to their first stop in Kenya, they were starting to see technology and they were very confused. Then on the second plane ride they got their food. They weren’t sure if/ how you eat each food. One of them ate butter, and another one tried to eat a wet wipe. Then when they finally got to America they were taught how to operate all the new technology. Then they were given 3 months to adjust, and then they had to get a job. Then they have to re pay their air fare cost. Over all right now in the story, they are just about to be fully ready for American life.

Blog #16- Da test answers

Well today in class we went over the answers for the test. I really didn’t have to play attention during the answers for the test because I had a 100 on the test, and the one I got wrong I knew the answer. So we went over the test, I was surprised that only a few people got an A on the test.  I thought that more people would have gotten a better grade. Then we watched a little more of the video from yesterday. We got to the part when they started to leave for America. We watched a little part that we watched yesterday. The part that we re-watched watched was when he was saying goodbye to his village, and gave all the kids candy. They said how they are not sure how life would be. Most of them didn’t know how to use stuff with electricity.  Well I think that America would be a new experience for them. So over all I was surprised that I had a 100 on the test.

Blog #15- Da test

Today in class we had the dreaded Human Geo test. The test was not as bad as I thought it would be. I was expecting Mr. Schick to be as evil as he could be, and make the test really hard and almost impossible. Though he didn’t so I was a bit surprised, the test was pretty straight forward and I really only had problems on a few different problems but overall it wasn’t as bad. The only questions that really stumped me were the ones on the country power points. For those I guess on like two but for the other ones I used process of elimination to figure out the states. I also made extra effort to remember 2.1 for the population because Mr. Schick made a special note about it. Then we watched a video about the boys who made the trip. It’s very sad that some parts of the world people have to watch over 15,000 people die on a trip for safety. Well over all the class was very different from the other classes we have had.

Blog #14- Even More countries

Today in Human geo we covered even more counties. We cover India, Indonesia, and like 2 minutes of America. We learned how India has a high Population, around 1.2 billion for their population. They have a low infant Mortality rate so it’s not the best. There aren’t a lot of pull forces for India because it's hard to find a job. Only 2.7 Percent of the population is Christian compared to the 80% of Hindu's. The Next country was Indonesia. Indonesia isn’t a developed Country. They have a bunch of problems. They have a lot aids in their country. They also are having a hard time attracting people to come to the country. They are having a hard time feeding people to. Then after that we talked briefly about The United States Of America. We talked about how America is in the top 10 for Obesity compared to other countries like France who have little to none obese people. This isn’t good we need to change that fact. That is all we did in class. We also went over how the test in move to Monday, thanks Schick.

Blog #13- Devoloping Country

We started to go over our powerpoints in class today. The first powerpoint that was up was Italy. Italy is a developed country that has it pretty good. They have a positive migration rate, so their population is going up. They have a low birth rate so they are not having a large amount of children. The next country that was on was our country Nigeria. Nigeria is a country in Africa doesn’t have it the best. They have a bunch of problems, and as you could guess they are still a developing country. They don’t have enough food and water. They have to deal with a lot pollution that they need to deal with. People are leaving the country because they don’t have it the best. The only reason people are entering the country is because they have oil. The people who live there have a life expectancy of around 52 years which is really low. They also have an infant mortality rate of 73 which means 70 kids die per thousand. Over all they don’t have the best life and they need help. It’s just not fair for them

Blog #12- The test is coming

The text is coming ever closer. Today is class we did some different stuff. The first thing we went over was how some people can’t get on their blogger. After that Mr. Schick assigned us a project that we have to research a country of his choosing. My group got Nigeria. Nigeria is a developing country and it is not a very nice place to live it. They have a bunch of natural and environmental problems. They have oil pollution everywhere, deforestation, urbanization, and air pollution. It is not the best place to live in. They have some said facts also. Their infant mortality rate is 74% that means that 3/4 of the children die. They are also number two for HIV and they are also number two for HIV related deaths. It’s really bad that they have so many problems to deal with and they die so young from all the different causes. It’s just a sad fact that so many people have to die young in other countries, it’s just not fair

Blog #11- Notes and Rates

We are starting to prepare for a test. One thing that Schick emphasized was rate and more rates. He talked about the migration rate. How many people are entering the country is shown is by the immigration rate. Then to see how many people are leaving a country you use the emigration rate to see these rates. Then we talked about the fertility ratio which means how many children a family will have in their life time. To keep a constant population the ratio has be 2.1. If it is any higher the population will grow. If it is any lower the population will decrease over time. This is important because if the fertility rate for all the countries was above 2.1 the world would start to become really over populated and the world may not be able to sustain a population that large. So all the rates all over the world helps us keep track of many different and important facts.

Blog #10- The Future is Bright

We really covered nothing in class for Human Geo. The first part of class we went over the plan for an evacuation. It seemed that when we went over it one question lead to an answer which then in turn led to more questions. We spent around 20 min, so half of the class just explaining what the different plans or the stupid questions. Then we went over the “Did You Know” and explained what we thought was interesting. We talked about the online dating one first. We said that it is kind of creepy when you think about it because not everyone is who they said they are. Then we talked about how if Facebook was a country, it would be ranked number 3 for highest population. Finally we went over about the technology. How in the old days for Mr. Schick, he didn’t have any of the stuff we have now. It’s kind of weird to think about how fast technology is growing. That in 1 year they will have a computer smarter than a human. Then in a couple of years they will have one smarter than a town and so on. Its’ really weird seeing how fast technology is progressing. Times will be really different when we are older.

Blog #9- Diverse Topics

We had one interesting class discussion is class today. The First part of the class we went over the world fact book questions. Then we talked about HIV is a problem all over the world but mostly is Africa and India. Now for the part that Mr. Schick probably wouldn’t want us to talk about but we had a mini sex Ed. class. It’s sad how America is 18th on the list out of 200 some countries. Then we talked about how we are only 29% catholic and Mexico is like 79%. I fact I found interesting about the “Did you know” video, was the part about the computers being smarter than a human in a couple of years. Then it will be smarter than all the humans on earth combined by 2060. That’s kind of a scary thought. I also found interesting that the top 10 jobs didn’t even exist 5 years ago. That shows how our society is changing.

Blog #8- CIA Facts

The world fact book is still very reliable source for us to use in our learning. We learned how to use the fact book. We also talked about 9/11. 9/11 is a very bad thing. Mr. Schick told us what he was doing when it happened. We were told by all the teachers that if they were here at John Carroll. They were all in the gym for mass when they got the word. We were told that at first they thought it was an accident but when the second plane hit, they knew what happened. I was 3 years old when it happened. I don’t remember much but I do remember sitting there watching the tower fall on repeat on the news. The other thing we covered was just review of the work. Everyone got smarties and that was the end of class. We never really did that much but otherwise it was a learning experience.

Class Blog #7- THE CIA

The World Fact Book is a very reliable source. I have learned many things from it. First of all the US’s population is 313,847,465. The five largest populations in the world are China, India, USA, Indonesia and Brazil. Number 6th is Pakistan with 190,291,129. The USA has a Constitution-based federal republic, with strong democratic tradition. Unemployment is a problem but in Zimbabwe its 95%. Russia is the largest country land wise. China also has the third highest amount of airports. China Exports the most, while Saudi Arabia exports the most oil. The USA imports the most oil. In China woman can serve in the military. GPD is the gross domestic products and Liechtenstein has the highest GDP per capita. The USA is 11th for the GPD. Africa has the highest birth rate and it has the highest HIV related Deaths. The USA is only 18th for HIV related death. America is also 23.9% Roman Catholic while Mexico is 76.5% Roman Catholic. Net Migration is the amount of people coming or leaving from a country, the USA doesn’t have the highest Net Migration rate. The world’s population is 7,021,836,029. I think knowing the populations are are important and knowing how much oil is used. The CIA fact book is the a reliable source if not the most reliable source.

Blog #6 Notes on Taking Notes

Notes on notes, confuse you yet? When taking notes never right everything down, only right what you either need or you summarize. So say if a teacher had a whole slide for of info only parts of it will most likely be used. The teacher might use hints such as pointing at the screen or actually telling you to write it down. We were shown that a class of 300 students in Harvard has 150 of them plagiarize. So taking good notes will prevent you from having to deal with that problem. Then we used a 4th grade EXAMPLE, and we still couldn’t do it. So the example was a little thing for Illinois. It talked about how Illinois is mostly prairie hence the nickname the prairie state. Then we learned that most of the people live in cities like Detroit or Springfield, though some people live in the plains. Taking notes is one of the most important skills that you will learn and I suggest that you learn it well.

Blog #5 The Man in the Basement

Today’s class in human geography was a pretty interesting one. We talked about how to tell if a website’s information is legit.  We learned that we should never use encyclopedias and opinions. Then he showed us some ways to tell just by looking at the website. After looking on one page we went on a little thing about a guy living in his mom’s basement. Then we looked at the CIA website, and then we were shown how to save a link to it on our blog. After that we made a little joke about how the guy in the basement had a design guy chained in the basement. The New York Times or a news website like CNN can be used as long as it isn’t the opinion page. Finally we were shown not to trust blogs of any sort. I especially don’t trust that SchickHumanGeo Blog, I don’t just it one bit, who is this Schick guy anyway. Otherwise it was a pretty fun class and we started to learn a bit.

Essay 3- The Five point plan

Everything you work at you should do your best. While I’m at John Carroll I will try to do my best, I can achieve this through a five step plan. The first way I'm going to approach this plan is that I need to study a lot more. When I was at my old school I never had to study but at John Carroll I know this will change. Part 2 of the plan is that I will try to get more involved with school. I never got involved with anything at my old school, nothing. Number three is to be more social, I didn’t talk to anyone other than my friends who I knew. I hope to change this by talking to people and branching out. Fourth is of course not bullying people. When I was at my old school I didn’t really bully I was just mean to some kids, but now I'm friends with those kids. I hope I don’t make the same mistakes twice. Last but no least is helping other people succeed. If someone is having trouble on say work or computer problems. I will help them by teaching them how to do it. This is how I plan to make myself better during my time at john Carroll.

Essay 2- Hubbard and Socrates

Socrates and Hubbard were to very wise men. Socrates was an Ancient Greek Philosopher. Times were very different for him then they are for us. If he came to our time he would probably we surprised. I think he would be happy to see that democracy survived, and he probably he happy that his theories were correct since he spent his life working on them. One thing that I know he would like how we have developed religion and that we have solved most of the things that he wondered in his life.  Then you could bring Elbert Hubbard our time but I don’t think he would be as happy. He would look and see how our lives have become lazy. That most of the time we don’t even do the work ourselves, we have developed technology that does the work for us. Though he may be happy about how far we have come with our new advances through hard work. Both of these men would like some of our life but other things they would dislike.

Essay 1- Arête

Arête is one of the best words to describe Ancient Greece. Arête means a sense of what is right, knowing what the right direction is and not straying from what you think it right.  Socrates is a prime example when it comes to this subject. Socrates was a philosopher who thought of many different theories. One of his theories is that the sun is its own separate body. It isn’t Apollo on his chariot riding across the sky. So he taught people this and the government wasn’t happy about this so they issued a trail. Socrates was found guilty and sentenced to death. Socrates could of escaped and have been done with it. But he decided that he would stay and except his fate. He died for what he believed in. He could’ve run but he chose not to, he stood up for what he thought was right. The Greeks themselves also demonstrated Arête. They set up democracy because they believed that having a ruler was wrong. So they set up their own way of doing things. Which till this day most of the world this that is right. Arête is something we still need today.

Class Blog # 4 Bit More Progress

Today is class we made some more progress. We went over our Greek word work. Though some of the people didn’t do it, a good majority did do it. The first word was Arete which meant one with a sense of character and such. The second word was polis which was like the first democracy which would change time forever. We also talked about a man named Socrates, he was a very-well known philosopher. He came up with different theories like the sun was a body in the sky not apollo on his cherriot. For his theories he was put to death for his theories. His death was caused by a poison called Hemlock. The next topic was the year 508 BC, this time was when all the revolutions started. Another word was agora, it was where people voted and did anything for the government. Last but not least was that Idiot in ancient greece meant people who didn't take advantage of their democratic system, they thought they were too good for it. So class today was a giant review for our other homework on the weekend.

greek paper not sure if do?

So Our first real assignment is to compare greek words with a message to Garcia. The first word was arête which means mountains. If you compare it to message from Garcia the mountains refer to what Rowan had to cross, as challenge, the other definition is knowledge or feelings. The second word polis it means citizenship. So this is all the people in for working. Socrates was a brilliant greek scholar. So to the story he is the man everyone wanted and for school he is the teacher for us to learn. Socrates was sentenced to death by poison. The date 508 BC had a lot of wars and the first political system. Agora in greek means meeting place, it could be referred to the town where the servant got drinks and forgot his task. The final word it idiot which means one with lack of skill. So in the story this is all the workers who have no skill and are being laid off. This is all that I could think of.

Blog #3 More Classes but still no Progress

Today in Human Geography we got nowhere. We had four new students in our class which means we got nothing done. The class helped them try to set up their stuff like their blog and their in school email. I mainly just messed with my settings on my computer then I helped Evan get on his PowerSchool account. The other thing that we did in class is that we ate donuts. I found it funny that we put the new kids on the wall. The other thing I found funny was when Holly wrote Garfield instead of Garcia.  So when we had like 10 min left of class I started righting this blog while in class. As I said class we really did nothing. The closest thing to learning was talking to the new kid that’s it. I can’t really think of 150 words to describe that class. So that is what we did in class today not much, actually not at all

Class Blog #2 Time well spent

Today in our magical class of human geography, Mr. Schick talked about a poem called “A message To Garcia”. The poem was a giant metaphor about how lazy people are and how they are becoming lazier. The poem was written by Elbert Hubbard. The poem started out about how the president needed to get a message to Garcia on Cuba. No one would do it except for a man named Rowan. Rowan was an example of how some people will do any job to the best of their ability. Then he used a metaphor about asking a servant to find a book and all he made was excuses about how he couldn’t do it. Then while Mr. Schick was reading it he kicked the stool across the room. After that we spent the rest of the class talking about how natural selection worked. So otherwise we had a pretty productive class time. Time well spent.

Class Blog #1

Today was the first real of class. I was surprised everyone brought their stuff. In class really nothing happened. We just went over the rules of the class. The main thing that was knew was when we tried to get everyone on the internet. I was fun because I just sat there and started helping people with their computers. I managed to help them get on the internet and I was happy I did that. Then after that I used free rice. I didn’t know half of them because they were these little countries that no one knew. The only way I could get most of them was through trial and error. Finally after a long time I managed to memorize the patterns. I managed to get like 1000 grains after a while. So I am looking forward to the rest of the year. If it goes like these past classes, it will be really fun.

First Homework for Schick

My first day at John Carroll was different from what I imagined. When I first got to School I was nervous about basically everything.  So I said hi to my friends from Trinity and then I continued through the day. Since I am the only boy that come to John Carroll from my school, when the boys and girls split I knew only one person. The person I knew, he went to my school in sixth grade.  As we went through the day I started to talk to people. So because I started to talk to people I made two new friends. At that point I wasn’t really nervous anymore. I had people that I could talk to and the day started to look up. The classes that we went to throughout the day were interesting, the teachers seem fun. One teacher was a bit annoying when he made the class do homework before school even starts. I’m not going to name any names. Over all it was an interesting first day of school, and I’m looking forward to the rest of the year.
